Sunday - the day after

Well not too much early activity at all this morning, some very sore heads, but then again some of the older brigade have been a little wiser, in learning from earlier years' mistakes, ensuring that they remained well hydrated throughout the evening.

So a slow start to the morning with some actually missing the breakfast window (8 - 10:30). The biggest activity was sitting around the pool, in the shade, getting rehydrated. With most of us venturing into the sea and/or pool to cool off.

This did allow us to chat a lot and reminisce about the previous day, as well as sharing stories and anecdotes of our adventures with the happy couple.

Sunday evening and we all headed 10 minutes walk down the beach for dinner. Another very pleasant dinner this time at Big John's. this was a much quieter affair, and we finished much earlier than Saturday night/Sunday morning.

The Wedding

Well it is a fantastic day about 30 degrees this afternoon as we await the wedding ceremony to commence, and not a cloud in the sky.

We are gathered in the bar having a quite drink before the ceremony which is to commence at 5pm. At 4:55 we are asked to head to the beach for the ceremony, to ensure that we are there in time to witness the arrival of the bride.

This is a fantastic surprise to us all, as Chrystal is accompanied by a Thai wedding party which includes several women in traditional dress as well as several men who are playing traditional Thai instruments. What a beautiful and fantastic entrance. Chrystal looks absolutely fabulous in her wedding gown.

The ceremony goes off without a hitch the vows being exchanged and both Matt and Chrystal adding vows of their own.

As part of the proceedings, there is a water ceremony, in which all guests are invited to individually congratulate the newlweds, by pouring a little water over the hands, and then congratulating the bride and the groom. This is great part of the ceremony and allows each guest to personally congratulate Matt and Chrystal, as well as saying a few special words.

The happy couple are then whisked off by the official photographer, to have the umpteen obligatory photos taken. Us guests adjourned to the bar, of course. We are joined a little later by Matt and Chrystal who also join in the proceedings.

As the sun sets in the western sky we make our way to the reception area which is in an open air deck beside the bar area.

As darkness sets in Matt and Chrystal are down on the beach where they light a candle which is inside a large large, this is to release bad spirits, they then lightly a second candle in another lantern which is for good thoughts. We are then joined on the deck by the newly wedded couple.

Releasing the lantern

The spread is fantastic with a myriad of Thai dishes possibly 15 or so, and all dishes were fantastic, including fish, vegetarian curries, chicken kebabs. The beer, wine and cocktails keep on coming.

No boring speeches with Matt the only one to speak, and he covered everyone who was there as well as many absent friends who could not make the wedding.

The music as selected by Matt and Chrystal continues throughout the evening, and most all take to the dance floor at some point with everyone in a fantastic mood and enjoying the reception. In fact the DJ's slept thru most of the evening as they had nothing to do as Matt's iPod provided the music.

At about 1am it is about time for me to head off to our bungalow. I later find out that the reception kicked on till about 3am, definitely a good idea that I left then!

What a fantastic ceremony, what a fantastic reception to mark the start of new chapter in Matt and Chrystal's life.

Congratulations to you both from all that attended and of course all who were unable to attend but of course sent their best wishes form your future.

Pre wedding Saturday

After a pretty relaxed Friday evening, we are having an even more relaxed time Saturday before the wedding with everyone doing there own thing. Ben & Matt are off into town to organise a few things, maybe Ben will ensure that Matt's nerves are settled a bit. A few others are off todo some shopping at the local shops at Nathon. This is an area about 5 minutes drive away that has clothing stores as well as jewellery and cafes and pubs.

The rest of us around the pool, and not too far from the bar, well it is after midday now!

The preparations for the wedding ceremony are proceeding, with the set up to the actual area on the beach beside the resort taking place as we speak.

A couple of shots of the area where the wedding is to take place, right on the beach. In the first photo you just see the archway on the beach where the ceremony will take place.
